God has labelled His children many things, for instance:

1 Peter 2:9  (KJV) “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;”

2 Corinthians 6:18 (KJV) “And I will be a father to you, And you shall be sons and daughters to Me,” Says the Lord Almighty.

I feel so special just knowing this. Knowing that the God of all the universe has extended His love to me is such a way. Wow, that is a blessing which is second to none! No earthly king, past, present or to come couldn’t pronounce such a blessing. But our God can and did!

I am sure reading these two scriptures inspires us all to further embrace and identify with who we are in God’s Kingdom. Now, if the aforementioned is the case, then why don’t we feel so on a daily basis as we go through life?

Well, there are a number of reasons for this and one of them is the environment we are mandated to operate in. This environment can be hostile thereby affecting our mood and emotions thus causing us to thinking negatively.

Matthew 10:16 Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore, be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.

When we walk out of our doors on mornings and everything is hunky-dory and ‘the world is our oyster’, sometimes we forget that we will be at the epicentre of wolves. Oftentimes we walk into a den and we don’t even know it. Wolves have been assigned to spoil our day and to disrupt and disconnect us from our Heavenly Father.

Wolves that come in the form of work colleagues and bosses, wolves who come as neighbours, wolves who present themselves as friends, or wolves who appear as strangers on the streets or during one off encounters. We look at these encounters as ordinary or happenstance but there are deeper and spiritually assigned motives behind all of them unbeknownst to us.

When God said He is sending us as sheep amongst wolves have you ever considered what the Devil is telling his minions? The Devil is telling his instruments, “I AM SENDING YOU AS WOLVES AMONG sheep, GO GET THEM!” We have our orders and assignments and they also have their orders and assignments. Our orders are to bring life, and their orders are to take that life from us.

One can only do what is in their nature and we all know the nature of wolves. Wolves are intelligent animals, their bodies are built for stamina and long-distance travel, wolves nearly always eat all of what it catches completely, they can live in inhospitable environments like the arctic which is cold and dark or even dry desert. This creature is built to keep on coming no matter the condition, be it individually or in a pack. (Reference)

Now you might ask yourself, did Jesus Christ, our loving Lord really send us among such a violent group? To which the answer would be ‘Yes’. Not only this, but He has sent us as the polar opposite – a sheep. The interesting thing is, there is no way a sheep will ever win a fight against a wolf in the natural sense. In a ‘Hoof vs. Paw’ combat, the one with the fangs will always be victorious.

Then why would God match us up in this manner by placing us in a battle we will lose physically? Well, that’s exactly it, our fight is in the spiritual and NOT in the physical. The only weapons we are allowed to use in this battle are the spiritual ones (2 Corinthians 10:4). When among wolves, we are operating in the physical but fighting with spiritual weapons (Ephesians 6:10-18). This is why Mathew 10:16 tells us to be wise, meaning, we must keep the battle in the spiritual. We cannot step down to their physical level and expect to win.

Some might say that they are fighting spiritually already but still seem to be backed in a corner and feeling like giving up. Or maybe because the wolves are raging violently and for so long, you have become fearful or tired thus causing you to react in ways you shouldn’t. I encourage you to take heart today because we weren’t given a spirit of fear nor flight (1 Timothy 1:7).  

Rest assured there is no need to fear the wolf. You and who is with you (Jesus Christ & the Holy Spirit) are greater than any wolf (Luke 10:19).

Therefore, keep fighting in the spiritual my brethren and stop fearing. The only one we should be fearful of is God who can destroy both body and soul (Matthew 10:28).

Always remember what 1 John says.

1 John 4:4 (NIV) 4 You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

Today I say to someone, you have been focusing and fearful of the wolf for too long. I encourage you to, “Take your eyes of the wolf and Win!”
