The bible says to acknowledge God in all our ways and he will direct our paths – Proverbs 3:6. Now lets be honest, most of us would have known this scripture but how much of us follow it in detail? Actually, the next verse (v7) builds on this by saying, “Do not be wise in your own eyes…”. If I were to generalize here I would say many of us do things our own way and without acknowledging the Heavenly Father.

Think about it? Do we pray that much and wait for God’s response when making major decisions in our lives? Examples like, when we get married, when choosing a profession or selecting new employers, when making an expensive financial purchase (e.g. mortgage or vehicle), when choosing a place to live and the list goes on? Do we seek the face of the Father to the extent that we need, or does our desire triumph over God’s design?

The aforementioned is what we would consider some of the major milestones in our lives. They are pivotal for earthly success and they can make us or break us if we do not get them right the first time. Therefore, it is paramount that we pray and even fast to clearly hear God’s heart and head in such matters. But the standard set out in Proverbs 3:6 is not for major things only but for what we would consider minor aspects of our lives and by minor I mean simple everyday living.

God wants us to know what are the plans He has for us and these are major plans at milestone moments as well as minor? I always liked how Jeremiah 29:11 summed up God’s thoughts towards us:

Jeremiah 29:11 (KJV) “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

Actually, the Hebrew translation provides us with a more meaningful interpretation because the word “design” is used instead of the word “thoughts”. It is like this, I can have a general thought of the type and size of house I want to build but that is just general things in my head. A builder cannot use this to construct any house. However, when I have approved architectural design drawings, well that speaks of precision and thought detail which is well documented and set aside for construction purposes. This is how precise God has designed and mapped out our life for success. We were not arbitrary thoughts to  Him but our life design was deliberate and well-crafted to bring benefit to us and others.

Therefore, by not acknowledging God and following our own design we are actually robbing ourselves of this wonderful future of great blessings and peace which is our expected end. Imagine that, we are actually ROBBING AND STEALING from ourselves, nobody else but Us!

Have you ever been in a situation that did not turn out ideal in the end? In other words, the expected end was not what you expected? Well maybe, just maybe, you did not acknowledge God from the beginning or perhaps you did, but you stopped seeking His guidance along subsequent stages in the journey.

It is either we are doing all of it God’s way or none of it. It is analogous to Moses heading to the promise land. He was doing all of it God’s way then he did one thing, just one thing, his own way and that cost him dearly – good life lessons for us all! Can you identify that one thing that you are currently doing your way? I remind us all that this one thing can cause a major stunning block in our life.

One of the reasons that I think many of us as believers seem so tired and worn out at times is because we make our own life decisions that feed our individualistic design which does not line up with God’s blueprint. Sometimes it is good to stop and honestly ask, “God, is my blueprint lining up with your design?”.

Doing it our way means that we are doing it in our strength and anything we do in our strength will be more tiring and unfulfilling. I believe that this sense of frustration, being unsatisfied and drained is God observing from afar without intervening and making us know that this is not the path to take. This in itself should be a sign and something to observe and take note when it is going on for too long.

So, my question to you today is, “do you want to be happy”? Do you truly want to be happy? Then stop doing it your way! Surrender to God and allow the Master Designer to craft your life anew. Take off your hands and allow the hands of the Great Potter to take the wheel. Will it be scary? Most likely! Will it be rewarding? Most Definitely!

Let us examine ourselves today with the help of the Father to see where we need to surrender more and move self and our own desires out of the equation. If you don’t know where to begin then let me give you some pointers. Start where you feel most sad, troubled, frustrated, or just feel like giving up. I say to you, Don’t Give Up, Give It Over!

Your Brother in the Lord,
