I did a 3 part series on Judas here, “Learn to Sit at the Table with Your Judas.” But Judas and the situation around him are on my mind again because of various posts and social feeds I saw recently.
One of these posts said, “Even people who break bread with you will betray you. You don’t believe me, then ask Jesus”. This quote was given from a somewhat negative standpoint. So while it was right in facts, it was wrong in perspective. So many of us fall into this same trap, “Correct with your facts, but wrong with your perspective“. Wow, I think that in itself can be another blog right there.
Anyhow, this quote got me thinking, what would have happened if Judas did not betray Jesus? Have you ever deeply considered that? Think about it for a moment.
If that betrayal did not happen, then:
- There would not have been a resurrection from the grave. This would mean we would not have a hope to be resurrected and live in eternity.
- There would not have been any shedding of blood for the forgiveness of sins. We still would be killing animals yearly to wash our sins away.
- There would not have been any sending of the Holy Ghost, the comforter, the one who gives us power to heal and deliver—the one who helps us pray and intercede for ourselves and others.
Now, that is some major stuff I listed above, and I am sure if I did some deep research, the list would be even longer.
The betrayal was part of God’s Master Plan. If betrayal was part of God’s plan for His heavenly son, why do you think that betrayal wouldn’t be a part of the life of His earthly son (YOU)?
We like to think that only walking on smooth roads or sailing in clear skies is always God’s plan. But as I am sure you have come to know, God’s plan is always designed with rough seasons. Like sandpaper, rough things make us smooth, and we ought not to fear it.
So, the onus is on us to see it for what it is. If you truly love God and live in God (I am not talking about Sunday Morning Christians here), then your perspective must be, “It has happened for my Good.” As my sister told me recently, “Things don’t happen TO a Christian; they happen FOR a Christian.”
We need to stop listening to all these one-track preachers who only preach prosperity and blessings as they skew and misrepresent God’s word. Remember, many are the afflictions of the righteous, BUT THE LORD DELIVERS HIM FROM THEM ALL. Actually, let’s examine that entire passage of scripture:
Psalms 34: 12-22 -“19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all.20 He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken.21 Evil shall slay the wicked: and they that hate the righteous shall be desolate.22 The Lord redeemeth the soul of his servants: and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate”.
You see what WILL happen at the end of your betrayal, hardship, or testing period. If you have patience, hope, full commitment, and trust in God, you will be delivered and be unbroken. Please don’t do the opposite; try to deliver yourself, as many of us do, and make ourselves broken in the end.
Many of us use frontal attacks to try and eliminate our Judases. When we do this, we eliminate or nullify a key piece of God’s plan before its time. May I remind us that some things are best birthed when they go full term, and prematurely interfering with things can cause death or produce severe consequences at least.
Jesus prayed for all 12 disciples, including Judas. He communicated and interacted with all of them in the same way (with expressions of love). He understood that everything happens for good for those who love the Lord and are called by His purpose (Romans 8:28). If everything happens for my good, then I must keep on treating people good. Jesus exemplified this by the way he treated His enemies and betrayers, in that, they all got the same treatment.
Dear friends, I would like to close by saying let’s change our perspective on the challenges that are presented to us in life. I encourage us to “Train our minds always to see the positive first”.
For example, if you get a flat tire. Don’t let the first thought be one of complaint and despair. Train your mind to see the positives first. Maybe God saved you from an accident lower down the road. Perhaps the flat might have caused you to realize that all your tires presently need changing. Maybe a Good Samaritan can come to your aid, and you get an opportunity to share God’s word and save a soul. Whatever it may be, always learn to see the positives first. For whatever the situation may be (good, bad or ugly) God is with you, and if God be with you, who can be against you (Romans 8:31).
Take heart today, my friend, take heart…! Remember, betrayers are to your benefit.
