In my most recent blog post, “Label It Good,” I discussed how our perception influences our approach to situations. This blog follows a similar theme because I strongly believe that our thinking patterns must change based on how we look at things.

So, the first thing I would like to ask is, “How do you see the Bible?” Many people see the Bible as a visa document that gives them access to heaven. Not only this, but they dilute other aspects and pick and choose what they want to follow. If a scripture they read does not fit or feed into aspects of their thinking, they don’t fully embrace it. They say things like, “I am not sure if that is what the bible meant”, or “That does not affect my salvation, so I don’t have to do that,” some might even be bold and say, “I don’t believe that” even when it is glaringly evident in black and white. All of the above I have heard believers say during my time in Christianity. It seems like gone are the days where we do not conform to this world and we strive to renew our mines (Romans 12:2).

Therefore, I must ask. How do you view the words of God? Do you see them as a set of laws, instructions, or guidelines that shape your life? Or do you only consider them as something to help you escape this world and gain access to heaven and nothing more? If you view it as the latter.  I ask you, “Is that all God has given us His words to us for?” To escape this life and gain access to the next? While this is true, it is a limiting view of the words of God if you only see it one way.

Everything that comes from God’s mouth is powerful, will last forever (1 Peter 1:22-24),  and cannot be voided (Matthew 5:18, Hebrews 6:18,). It should be remembered, utilized, cherished, and applied for the duration of our lives and all eternity. Do you know what this tells me? It tells me that God’s word is alive and must be embraced and adopted. Because His words are living, the Bible (God’s Instruction Manual) can bring life to every situation that we are faced with.

For this reason, we cannot just read it; we must embark on a journey to become students of the word in deep study and appreciation for it. I often say, “When the word of God guides you, you can be led through anything.” But if the word of God is not guiding us, we will stumble and then question why did we fall.

We fall because we walk in a dark world and without anything illuminating our path this is what will happen. Remember, the word of God is a light unto my feet and a lamp unto my path (Psalm 119:105 KJV). If this is the case, and it is, then the brighter the flashlight of God’s word shines in our heart, the more illuminated our path is. It is as simple as that!

This is why I say God’s words are not merely to give us access to Heaven. They must be seen as the blueprint for living on Earth, the manual guiding how we should operate, or the guidebook which helps us navigate the terrain of life.

This is why I have always loved what my barber once told me. He said, “Anytime he is going through a difficult time, he gets into God’s word to research and learn how to navigate. My barber and friend sees God’s word for what it is, words to not only make him live, but also words to live by. With that in mind, let’s look at some scriptures to help us prosper on earth.

SAVING MONEYGenesis 41:34-36 : Let Pharaoh appoint commissioners over the land to take a fifth of the harvest of Egypt during the seven years of abundance. 35 They should collect all the food of these good years that are coming and store up the grain under the authority of Pharaoh to be kept in the cities for food. 36 This food should be held in reserve for the country, to be used during the seven years of famine that will come upon Egypt, so that the country may not be ruined by the famine.”1/5 is equal to 20% . If we follow this approach, then a believer should save 20% of their income every month.
INVESTINGEcclesiastes 11:2 – “Invest in seven ventures, yes, in eight; you do not know what disaster may come upon the land.Having multiple endeavours and diversifying are keys.   – if you have one skill, get another. – if you have one job, then get another. – if you are spending all your time doing the same thing, then diversify. Master one thing then move unto the next. Keep building value because hard days will come.
HEALTH & WELLNESSCorinthians 9:24-26: Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. 25 Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. 26 Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly;

Ezekiel 47:12 12 Fruit trees of all kinds will grow on both banks of the river. Their leaves will not wither, nor will their fruit fail. Every month they will bear fruit, because the water from the sanctuary flows to them. Their fruit will serve for food and their leaves for healing.”
When exercising, do so with strict training and discipline.

Seek out and eat heathy food for nourishment and medical healing.
EMOTIONAL & MENTAL WELL BEINGProverbs 17:22: A cheerful heart is good medicine,
but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.

Proverbs 15:13: A happy heart makes the face cheerful,
but heartache crushes the spirit.
Learn to do things to make yourself happy. Only you oversee your happiness. Be deliberate with this.

There are so many scriptures that we can put here but let’s stop for now. The theme of these scriptures tells me that God does not want to make our lives on earth hell, in order for us to get to heaven. Our Father is balanced in how he does things.

My intent in this blog is to get us to see God’s word in a more holistic, and multifaceted way. Because when challenges or opportunities come our way, the first thing we should do is seek Him for direction. This is done in two ways, seeking His presence in prayer and searching the Bible for His principles. Prayer and principles are the key for successful spiritual and earthly living.

Today I encourage you to do this. Whatever you are going through, do an internet search on the topic and see what the Bible says about it.  Then internalize, mediate, and make an attempt to apply it. I guarantee by doing this, you will be blessed. I close by saying, be brave and put God’s word into action.
