Last week, God allowed me to write the blog – Learn to Sit at the Table with your Judas – Part 1. This week I attempt to continue with the topic as I feel there is still more to say. So here we go…

One thing I like about Jesus, who is our model for living this life, is how He often approaches things.  In Matthew 26:21, we see Him stating, “Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me.” Now, think about this strong statement for a minute. Jesus is saying that someone (Judas) will betray Him.

The interesting thing for me in this scenario is that Jesus knew He would be betrayed, and “Jesus did Nothing.” Jesus did not pull away from Judas as a previous friend/acquaintance, remove Himself from the entire group of disciples, turn the other disciples against Judas, or take up arms to fight Judas directly. Nope, Jesus just did nothing!

How many of us will take this approach when Judases are among us? Not many, I would assume. Why? Because we love to take matters into our own hands. When God said the battle is the Lord (1 Samuel 17:47), our actions show the opposite; our actions show that the battle is ours since we love to intervene and take matters into our own hands. Therefore, my response to you is, STOP DOING THAT, lay down your arms, and LEARN TO TRUST GOD!

Let me expand as to why it is important to follow God’s lead and not use physical elements when dealing with your Judases. Look at this scripture -John 13:27 (NIV) “As soon as Judas took the bread, Satan entered into him….”

This scripture shows us that there was a separation of the realms in which Judas was operating. One was a physical realm of wickedness (Earthly Wickedness) where Judas went to the high priest to indicate he would give up Jesus (Matthew 26:14). Then, after Satan entered him when he took the bread, there was a Spiritual Realm of wickedness where Judas was no longer in control, as the evil spirits within him took over.

Understanding this is important because you might take up arms to fight your Judas at a physical level, but they are operating on a dark spiritual level. In these cases, you are not fighting the person physically, but rather, the spiritual force manipulating them; now, that is who our true enemy is.

Knowing who our true enemy is and how to fight them was amplified just a few moments later when Peter drew his sword in the Garden of Gethsemane to defend Jesus from the soldiers.  I want us to note that the disciples had physical swords on them, and the sword Peter drew was not taken from a soldier but his own. Peter had two weapons to choose from, a physical one (sword) and a spiritual one (Matthew 5:43-44 , Luke 6:35), and he chose the former. This is what the actual passage states:

Matthew 26:51-53 (NIV) 51 With that, one of Jesus’ companions reached for his sword, drew it out and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear. 52 “Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him, “for all who draw the sword will die by the sword. 53 Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels?

Note that Peter was told to put his sword back in its place. I say the same to you today: put your sword back in its place and stop using physical weapons of arguing, attacking, and aggression to fight your battles. The same passage in Luke 22:51 (NIV) states it this way, “No More of this.”  Combining these two scriptures, I say to you today, “Put your physical weapon back in its place, and no more of this type of fighting.”

This type of fighting only produces one thing: death. Jesus stated that those who live by the sword die by the sword. Therefore, if you want to win your Judases, a BELIEVER in the Lord Jesus Christ must not use the sword in this regard. You must be a BELIVER and believe in God to fight your battles.

The other thing I noticed in this passage is that Jesus indicated that He could have called upon His Father and prayed for angels to be sent to his aid. But if you notice, Jesus did not use any of these weapons of sword or prayer to get the victory. Interesting, right?  What Jesus used was time. Our Lord knew that in some situations, you have to let it play out as God designed it to play out. You must stand still and see the salvation of God work in order for His name to get the glory (Exodus 14:13). Please don’t get me wrong, I am not saying you don’t pray, but sometimes we have to pray and wait upon the Lord for in His timing, the victory will be won (Isaiah 40:31)

Dear friends, God will prepare a table before us in the presence of our enemies (Psalms 23:5) and He will also make our enemies at peace with us once our ways please Him (Proverbs 16:7). My encouragement to us today is to understand better who our true enemy is, and how we should fight him in order to bring glory to God’s name. I pray this blog has blessed and encouraged someone.

PS: Dane Miller was last seen triumphantly returning from battle. Rumour has it that onlookers were amazed at how he won the victory without lifting a sword.
