This week I had an epiphany of sorts. It registered with me more that God was the one who created marriage and because He created marriage, He knows everything about it. Because He knows everything about it, then He is the main person to seek help from when your relationship is in trouble. It is like going back to the creator of the thing, to find out how his creation should function, that is, “what to do and what not to do”. But you know us humans, we like to read the user’s manual last or not at all. So, it is in the physical, so it is in the spiritual, I guess.
The thing is, we might first attempt to fill our minds with so many other theories and books of men before we embrace the Living Word of God. I am in no way saying that other books are not important or needful, but it is always good to go to the source first. As my dad would say, “Go to the head of the fountain, the water is always clearer there”.
We must learn to get into the word of God first and ask ourselves, “What does the Creator, say about this?” One must line up their actions against God’s word and ask, “Am I doing what God says to do or am I resisting and doing the opposite?” But for this to happen, we must view God’s word as the Living Word which must guide our lives.
Let me represent what I mean by Living Word in the form of an analogy. When someone is hit with a blow and gets knocked out, one of the devices that a medic would reach for is a defibrillator to try and resuscitate life back into the person. It would be unwise to call for any other device in that moment, right? In the same way, if we want to live, we must call for God’s Living Word first. His word is the spiritual defibrillator, it is absolutely essential to bring back life.
But sadly, we don’t see it that way sometimes. We closely hold unto some aspects of God’s word; we loosely embrace others, and, in some areas, we just don’t believe at all. If we take this approach, we would be like a chain which has some strong links and weak ones. Then once tension and stress are applied, the chain will break regardless of how good some of the strong links are. If you are not seeing and applying God’s word as the Living Word, then your life will be like this chain – easily destroyed with one pull. It’s that simple…!
Sometimes we might be before God praying and pleading with Him for a word of direction for our lives. When all we need to do is go and read and apply what the Loving Father has already placed in His word for us. Too much of us are seeking a word when we already have God’s Word. No one goes on a camping trip in unexplored lands without a compass. God’s word and the Holy Spirit are our compass.
- When looking for answers for obtaining wealth and being successful, get in God’s word!
- When looking for answers for dealing with a difficult boss, get in God’s word!
- When looking for answers for marriage, get in God’s word!
- When looking for answers for relating to your enemies, get in God’s word!
- When looking for answers for training up your kids, get in God’s word!
- When looking for answers for managing in hard times and even famine, get in God’s word!
God’s word has everything!
One of my favourite scriptures has always been, Hosea 4:6 which states, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge”. If we are destroyed by this, then why don’t we seek this wisdom and knowledge from the source? I leave each of you to answer this question individually. But if you want to be successful, we must learn to bury ourselves in God’s Living Word to get the guidance we need to navigate. Without God’s word, we will be like a boat without a rudder, and who wants to be such an aimless vessel.
I am not writing the above because I am perfect, it is quite the opposite. I am writing because I have made mistakes and major ones too. But God is merciful, and I am glad his mercy was extended to me, or else I may have already been cut off from this life. Thank you for your mercy, Father!
It is because I have been up as well as down, that I can pen this blog. It is because I want to help someone else on their journey, I pen this blog. It is because I want to see God’s word more as the Living Word, I pen this blog.
I know this blog will bless someone because God wanted me to write it. Now to receive a blessing from it, we must speak to ourselves and do two things, embrace, and apply. So, I challenge you now. Whatever you are going through, spend some time today and research what God’s word says about it. Spend as little as half an hour and invest in your life, to improve your living.
I would like to end this post by giving a reminder of how wonderful His words are from a passage in Psalms 19:7-9:
“The law of the LORD is perfect,
refreshing the soul.
The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy,
making wise the simple.
The precepts of the LORD are right,
giving joy to the heart.
The commands of the LORD are radiant,
giving light to the eyes.
The fear of the LORD is pure,
enduring forever.
The decrees of the LORD are firm,
and all of them are righteous”.
Bye for now my friends and do have a good weekend.

I know it’s more associated with psychics and science but the blog reminds me of the First Principle law. Even though the tower has been built when you get down to the very basics of the structure, what is it built on? Because the most important part of the structure is the foundation and we need to put God as our foundational brick and mortar in everything we do.

So right Derek in that the foundation is key. As I always say, “the broader the base the bigger the tower”. Thanks for sharing your thoughts,
