Hello friends, it has been a few weeks since I penned a blog. I have been very busy of late working on some personal projects which are consuming a lot of my time. I think I bit off more than I can chew, but by God’s grace He will give me the grace to complete them.

In today’s blog I wanted to share some general thoughts on some scriptures I was reading recently.

Two weeks ago, I had interactions with two different persons on separate occasions which reminded me that we are truly living in an environment with wolves. The behaviors and attitudes of these persons immediately took me to the following scripture in Matthew.

Matthew 10:16 (NIV) – 16 “I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore, be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.

Jesus said this so we can be on our guard. He wants us to be shrewd because being anything less can lead to our entrapment and maybe even destruction. Remember, wolves cannot help but be wolves. It reminded me that when someone smiles at you, it doesn’t mean that that person is your friend or someone you can trust. As we say in Trinidad, “All Skin Teeth isn’t Grin”. So, Father thanks for the reminder!

Another reminder came when I was doing bible study in the book of Luke. In the first few chapters of Luke, I noticed the Holy Spirit/Ghost was eminent in every aspect. Some examples are, the Holy Ghost came upon Mary (1:35), Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost and prophesied (1:67), the Holy Ghost was upon Simeon (2:25), and the child grew and waxed strong in the Holy Spirit (1:80), the Holy Spirit descended on Him like a dove (3:22), the spirt led Jesus into the wilderness to be tempted (4:1), Jesus returned in the power of the spirit to Galilee (4:14), the spirit of the Lord was upon Him (4:18).

You will not only see the Holy Spirit/Ghost littered across the pages of Luke but you will also see unclean spirits who had people in bondage, sick and in need of healing. The reason Jesus could have effected change in their lives is because he was full of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 12:29). It reminded me that to effectively do the work of the Lord, we must have the Holy Spirit/Ghost at the center of our lives guiding and ruling. So, Father thanks for the reminder!

Another reminder came when I was studying 1 Corinthians 13. In this chapter the Apostle Paul was telling us to desire the gifts of the spirit for this is what can edify the church. What a privilege to have  a gift that can edify the church of God. What could be better than that? Well Paul told us when he said:

1 Corinthians 13:13 (NIV) 13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

1 Corinthians 16:14 – Do everything in love.

With wolves around us, and the challenges and struggles on every side, sometimes it is easy to forget to operate in love – which is our core mandate! When we do everything in love everything else falls into place. So, Father thanks for the reminder!

I would be interested to know what your recent reminders were in the comments section below. But for me, I can summarize mine into the following phrase.

“Rely on the Holy Ghost, show love to everyone and watch out for those wolves”

Today I think God wants to remind someone of something they have forgotten about Him regarding His attributes and character. Maybe you need to be reminded that He is all powerful, ever loving, merciful and gracious, and kind. Or maybe you need to be reminded that He also is a God of wrath and He will punish us if we continue sinning and doing wrong.

Reminders are a good thing and reminders are always necessary! What reminder do you need today? If your faith needs and injection, then get in the word of God. If your hope needs an uplift, then get in the word of God. God’s word is timeless, always relevant and acts as a lamp on your feet (Psalm 119:105) to illuminate your path.

A friend of mind told me this years ago. He said, “Dane, anytime I am going through something difficult and I need a reminder, I get into the word of God because I can always get the answer there”. I can personally tell you, that I have found this to be true.

For those of you who might not want to dive into the word of God. Then I would suggest that you.

  1. Find a trusted friend and get some advice from them.
  2. Read an inspirational book.
  3. Look back at what God has done in your life and celebrate this with praise.
  4. Sit down and talk to Him in prayer.

Don’t give up today my friend, take steps now to remind yourself about the Goodness and Greatness of our God. After doing that, just wait 24 hours, for what a difference 24hours can make in one’s life.

Lamentations 3:22-23 (ESV) 22 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end;  23 they are new every morning; is your faithfulness.
