All of us have been there during our Christian walk, the place where it looks more attractive to leave the kingdom of God than to remain. Some of you might find the word attractive to strong, but you can replace it with inviting, or tempting, or anything else you find appropriate in this instance. However, no matter the word or the reason, at some point most believers will reach a state where “taking all that they have” and leaving God’s Kingdom seems like the best option.

For the bible readers among us I am sure your mind has already recalled the parable of the lost son (Luke 15:11-32). In this story the youngest son comes to his father and asks for his share of the inheritance. Then a few days later he leaves for a far country and squanders all his living and becomes poor to such an extent that no one gave to him. Then he came to his senses and went back home to the father where he was lovingly received.

This story is rich in analogies and there are so many elements and learnings to be gleaned from it.  One of which is, the household of the father can be likened to that of the Kingdom of God. The son did not only leave the presence of the father, but he left the kingdom itself and his brother who was depending on him.

There is so much at stake for us and those around us when we walk away from the Kingdom of God. Leaving the presence of the Father and His kingdom not only affect us, but also the Godly family and immediate family members who look up and respect us. I would like to remind myself and others today that there are dire consequences for leaving the Kingdom of God. No one has ever left the Kingdom of God and prospered because it is literally giving up life and choosing death instead.

Quoting from the book of Esther, we have been brought into the kingdom for such a time as this (Esther 4:14). There is purpose for us in the kingdom, there is work for us in the kingdom, there are souls to be brought into the kingdom. There is much work to do in the kingdom and the kingdom needs you!

We were not handpicked by God and added to His Heavenly Kingdom by happenstance. God developed a master plan before the foundation of the world and this plan was to be executed by human beings. Now out of the billions of persons to choose from God selected us to be an integral part of this plan by appointing us agents of salvation. We were not only chosen to work together with God but also to obtain a hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). We are blessed when we are specially chosen by God and that’s what we are!

Today I encourage someone not to leave the Kingdom of God. Don’t give up on your hope and on your future. Don’t let any push factor or pull factor affect you to the extent that you want to walk away from your blessing and the best thing that could ever happen to anyone – being a child in the kingdom of God. I say again, stand firm and don’t run away from God.

The lost son in the parable got a chance to come back into the kingdom but sometimes it is not so for everyone, some leave and never come back. I thank God that the lost son came to his senses (Luke 15:17) and regenerated himself with the right thinking. In my opinion that thinking was, “my father has everything I need and more, why should I be outside His kingdom suffering?”.

So, my encouragement for us today is:

  1. If you are outside God’s kingdom because you were previously here or maybe because you never ventured to accept His invitation and become a child of God before, I urge you, I plead with you today to accept Jehovah God as your Lord and saviour. The only time I would encourage anyone to leave a kingdom is to leave the kingdom of this world, which will soon pass away and all who serve in it and with it (1 John 2:17).
  2. If you are in God’s Kingdom, then stay and don’t go anywhere. The devil is like a roaring lion seeking those to destroy (1 Peter 5:8), and stepping outside the walls of the Kingdom makes you easy prey for him. Stay where you belong and continue working for the Lord. Take note of the parable as to where the brother who stayed with the Father was found, he was found in the field working (Luke 15:25). He was found in a place where he was consumed with His Fathers business and this is the best place to be to remove outside kingdom distractions.

God bless you my friends and I look forward to working with you in the Kingdom of God!
