Here is Part 3 of my blog series, which I never imagined writing. However, God wants me to share more on this topic. In the first blog, I spoke about how God wants us to understand the future through the scriptures and how crucial it is to trust His word and see the end. Part 2 focused on how our present actions and habits can shape our future as individuals and how important it is to be mindful of this. In this final segment, I would like to address individuals who desire to change their futures but may lack the motivation or knowledge to do so.
I want to start by telling the story of my beloved earthly father. He came from St. Vincent and the Grenadines when he was 14 years old to Trinidad to find his biological father. When he came across, unfortunately, my grandfather died two weeks later, leaving my father to fend for himself in a strange land with no support.
Skipping ahead in Daddy’s story a bit. One day, my father was in a Calypso Tent listening and enjoying the music when a Calypsonian said as part of his rendition, “…little black boy rise up…”. My dad indicated that he was in the audience, and the words struck him deeply, and instantly, he felt that he must transform his life. He went and furthered his studies; he worked hard, built houses, purchased land, and became an all-around wiser man. Daddy made a 180-degree change in his life for the betterment and blessing of his family. Those words from that calypsonian were a course-correcting moment for Daddy Dearest, and in a similar fashion, I pray these words are the same for you.
What am I saying, my dear friend? To rise and change your future, it will take one event – YOU. It will take you saying enough is enough and coming to the full realisation that things must change, and for things to change, you must first change. Do you expect someone else to change situations for you? Do you expect, because you are a believer, that a miracle from heaven will fall in your lap just like that?
What I am about to say might be shocking for some, but “Everything that God gives us must first come from an action from us”. Let me give some examples to support my point.
- God sent his son to die for us based on the action of Adam’s disobedience in the Garden.
- God acts on our behalf based on our prayer requests to Him. (James 4:2-3)
- Remember what Proverbs 11:25 says, “A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” God will bless us based on how we bless others.
- Persons got healed from Jesus because they got up one morning and decided to find Him. Therefore, they pushed past the large crowds and obstacles to ensure they got access to him regardless of the barriers (look at Who Uses the Roof).
Our actions from God are based on our actions toward God. Our actions from a thing (output) are based on our actions to a thing (input). This is a general rule that can apply to most things. So, get into action now to shape your future tomorrow. As a quote I heard this week states, “Action is a product of the Mind”, so get your mind right.
Remember not to be fearful or filled with trepidation. The Bible says that the righteous are bold like a lion (Proverbs 28:1), and a lion fears no one. Instead of focusing on the resources you don’t have, the competencies you still need to attain, or the position you’re starting from, remember that all these things are inconsequential. When you team up with God, it gives you a winning advantage over everything else – YOU HAVE THE ADVANTAGE. Just like in sports, No one should have the advantage and want to give it away.
My friend, would it be easy? No! But it will be rewarding in the end with a better future? Yes! Therefore stop procrastinating, because “Procrastination can become Painful”, or as I like to say, “Procrastination leads to stress”. This is why I love the wise, industrious and hard-working Proverbs 31 woman. It states in Proverbs. 31:25 (NIV), “She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.” In other words, this woman laughs at the future because she not only trusts God, she works with God to define her future.
Have a good weekend, my friend, and I leave you with this motivational clip about self-development below.
